Even with everything going on in the world this year, it is still possible to accomplish the goals you set in January, or to reevaluate and make some new ones! It is understandable if your commitment to hitting your healthy goals for 2020 has been put on the back burner, but there is no better time than now to get back on the horse and achieve them. Keep reading for our top three tips for rediscovering your motivation and crushing your goals!
Make a [New] Plan
Whatever your initial plan was for accomplishing your goals, odds are that the circumstances in your life have changed, and you need to create a new plan. For example, if you signed up for a race – whether it was a 10k or a marathon – that was canceled, you may have decided to ditch your original training plan and said to yourself, “maybe next year”. Why not now?! Runners World has some great, FREE online training plans for every distance from 5k to 26.2. Use online resources like these to reignite your fire and give you the structure you need to hit your goal!
There are a lot of new developments, restrictions, and barriers to consider every week right now, so keeping your goals and your plan to achieve them as simple as possible is essential. Instead of trying to tackle every change you wanted to make in 2020, take it one at a time and make a plan that will be easy to follow. For example, if you want to eat healthier, make a simple change that you can implement at every meal. Try filling half your plate with fresh vegetables or eliminating dessert to start.
Find a Support Network
There are more online networks to support healthy lifestyles than ever before, and you should take advantage of them! Whether you download an app, join an online forum, or create your own group from friends in your network, take advantage of the support available to you. “It comes down to support. Whether you’re changing your lifestyle for the better or maintaining it, having someone to encourage and challenge you along the way, really helps motivate men and women” (UC Health). So, find your tribe – the people who will motivate you on days when you don’t feel like doing it, and who you can help when the roles are reversed.
With these three tips, we hope you can rediscover your motivation to hit your 2020 goals! If you have an injury or pain holding you back from training, we encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our caring Physical Therapists today!
