On Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 11:00 am, the first heat of riders began pedaling. It was a chilly 39 degrees when the first rider began and warmed up only about ten degrees by the time our final rider had finished. However, the cold did not stop Team Optivus or the other 30+ teams from pedaling with smiles and determination.
Partners for Housing in Mankato has put this event on for the last 9 years and, though this is only our second year participating, it is an event that we plan to continue as a team for years to come. Though things looked a little different this year because of COVID regulations, what remained was the joyful experience. The atmosphere was electric, with music blasting, teams cheering each other on, and the motivation of the riders to push for the next tenth of a mile before time ran out.
As enjoyable as the event was, the money our team raised for Partners for Housing made it even more gratifying. We have now met or exceeded our goal of $1,000 two years in a row and plan to continue this trend. With Mankato having one of the lowest supplies of affordable housing in the state, we are proud to have raised these funds to support those less fortunate in our community.
We want to thank our riders, those that came to cheer, and those that donated to support Team Optivus. We would also like to thank Partners for Housing for organizing this event, giving us the opportunity to be active for a great cause.
